It is only the beginning but a great way to start. In collaboration with the African American Heritage Alliance and the Town of Culpeper via the tourism department, Right the Record launched a recognition project for the Black commercial district that existed during segregation. The first event of its kind included the unveiling of six plaques mounted on buildings that were owned and/or operated by African Americans. There are more to come. In addition to the plaques (the first six funded by the Town of Culpeper), the partnership with the town included having a special landing page on the Culpeper Tourism web site. The page provides an opportunity to share more of the history as well as additional photographs. Link to that website is Right the Record (visitculpeperva.com)
